WORLD STANDARDS DAY CELEBRATIONS 2012

Every year, 14th of October is celebrated as World Standards Day (WSD) the world over. It is an occasion to pay tribute to the thousands of experts worldwide who are involved in the development of standards from which the whole world benefits. For the first time this year, BSB is celebrating the day, and the occasion is mainly used to create awareness on the importance of standards and standardization. The theme for this year’s WSD is “Less Waste, Better Results- Standards Increase Efficiency.”

Coinciding with the occasion, BSB is organizing a two-day awareness seminar starting today, the 13th of October 2012. The events are mainly aimed at sensitizing government officials, industry representatives and the general public on the need and importance of standards. The seminar at Hotel Taj Tashi today has Parliamentarians, Government Secretaries and Directors. The second day seminar at the BSB Conference Hall tomorrow will see representatives from relevant government agencies, industry and business community.

Two experts, Mr. Dennis Chew from the IEC Asia-Pacific Regional Centre in Singapore and Ms. Prem Malhotra from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) have been invited to share their experiences and expertise in standardization and also to talk on specific subjects such as the theme of the 2012 WSD, technical barriers to trade created by use of unjustifiable standards etc.
The first issue of the BSB Newsletter is also being launched today, coinciding with the WSD Celebrations.

The Administration and Finance Division, Bhutan Standards Bureau, Royal Government of Bhutan invites sealed bids from Bhutanese firm(s) having valid trade license issued by authorized licensing authority for Repair and Maintenance of office vehicles on framework contract basis for the financial year 2012-2013.

The bid documents containing detailed terms and condition can be obtained from procurement section with effect from 4th September, 2012 on payment of Nu 500.00 (non- refundable) during office hours.

The last date of sale of quotation is on or before 12th September, 2012 at 11.oo AM. Last date of submission of the sealed bid is on or before 5th October, 2012 at 2.15 PM BST and the same will be publicly opened at 2.30 PM BST in the presence of the intending bidders who choose to attain the opening by the Tender Committee.

Purchaser will not be responsible for any cost incurred in the connection with the preparation and delivery of its bid, irrespective of the outcome of the bidding process.

The sealed bid document accompanying the bid security must be delivered to the Head, AFD, and the bid security to be addressed to the Director General, Bhutan Standards Bureau, Thimphu on or before 12th September 2012, at 2.15 PM BST
