World Metrology Day 2019

The Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB) and in particular the National Metrology Laboratory (NML) would like to wish everyone a warm World Metrology Day (20th May 2019).  World Metrology Day is celebrated every year on 20th May to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875.

The theme for this year’s World Metrology Day is, “The International System of Units – Fundamentally Better“. The theme was chosen because the member states of International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) voted on 16th October 2018 to revise the SI and changing the world's definition of the kilogram, the ampere, the kelvin་and the mole. The change in definition comes into effect from today (20th May 2019). The definition is now based on best understanding of the laws of nature and eliminate the link between the SI and definitions based on physical artifacts. While this change may not be noticeable to users, there will be changes in the way that traceability is ultimately established.

On this day, the staffs of BSB re-dedicate our service in maintaining the highest standards on Metrology traceable to international standards and providing internationally recognized and efficient calibration and verification services to measurement users in the country.
