Notification
Sub: Import of only Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB)-certified products
The Bhutan Standards Bureau (BSB), established under Section 3 of the Bhutan Standards Act 2010 (Act), is empowered by Section 11(g) of the Act to:
“Prohibit the import for sale in the Kingdom of products not conforming to mandatory Bhutan Standards, except where the standards as per which the products were manufactured are higher than Bhutan Standards.”
In addition, the Act mandates and empowers BSB under the following provisions: Section 4(f): to promote quality and standardization; and Section 4(h): to carry out such other mandates related to standardization and quality control including monitoring as may be assigned by the Royal government.
Therefore, in accordance with the above provisions of the Act, only products certified by BSB will be permitted entry into the country and shall be distributed exclusively through authorized dealers. This is intended to stop the in-flow of substandard products entering the country to enhance the national economy, benefiting the health, safety, quality, and welfare of the public. This requirement will initially apply to the followings products and will be gradually extended to include additional products over time.
This notification will come into effect from 1st January 2026 and is issued for strict compliance and implementation by all relevant stakeholders.
